Eagle Scouts

Here at troop 440 we are no strangers to flying with the eagles. We have always believed that it takes more than merit badges and community service to make a man an Eagle. It takes a community; it takes a troop to take a timid young boy and instill in them the ability to be truly trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty and brave in conduct and in spirit.

The explorer Henry Hudson once said: "you cannot fly like an eagle with the wings of a wren." Our mission always has and always will be to give young boys their wings. If Troop 440 had never graduated a single Eagle Scout, but succeeded in teaching our scouts the skills necessary to fly with the eagles, we would be completely satisfied. It turns out, however, that to succeed at the latter is a sure-fire way of giving a young scout the fortitude, and dedication required to achieve any goal they set their mind to. We find that 80% of our scouts who stay with us past the age 15 become eagle scouts.

"You cannot fly like an eagle with the wings of a wren."

In our 40+ year history as a troop we have given countless scouts their wings, and in turn have produced many many Eagle Scouts. Currently only the most recent of our eagles are profiled on this site. You can find links to a little information about their scouting careers on the left. If you should happen to be a Troop 440 eagle, we would be more than happy to add a page for you here as well. Please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Our Eagles may have very diverse futures ahead of them -- but we know that the skills and friendships that troop 440 has provided for them will follow them wherever they go. Of the small fraction of our Eagles profiled on the site, some are serving in the military, while others are studying at universities, while yet others have entered the civilian workforce already - living at all ends of the country; we are very pleased to see the reaches our influence has had. Our Eagles are not bound to the land -- and neither are their possibilities!
